Garmin has added to their Motorcycle GPS line with the addition of their Zumo 390. The Zumo 390 adds to the capability of the earlier units by adding a feature, they are calling, Curvy Roads, which allows you to select, rather than just shortest distance or fastest time, routes along winding roads, where you and your motorcycle can just roll. Adding to the Curvy Roads feature the Zumo 390 also includes Bluetooth capability for hands free cell phone communication and turn by turn directions through your compatible helmet or headset.
The 390 adds to the legacy of the line by including the now expected auto features like Lane Assist with Junction View, and a trip computer. The Zumo 390 includes a compass page displaying bearing and distance. Like earlier Zumo’ s the 390 is rugged with a waterproof rating of IPX7, meaning it is submersible in 1M of water for up to 30 Minutes. It is also resistant to fuel spray and UV rays. The overall appearance is rugged in appearance with a rubberized outer case that is easy to grip when using it in hand. The estimated run time on battery is 7 hours which is significantly longer than the auto units.
The Zumo 390 is also compatible with the optional Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor which allows you to view what is going on with your bike’ s tire pressures, while you ride. It simply attaches to the valve stem and connects via ANT wireless technology. Alerts can be set to notify you of a significant change in tire pressure. One Sensor is required for each tire monitored and alert levels can be set for each up to four tires.
The Garmin Zumo 390 comes with all that is needed to mount on your motorcycle as well as suction cup mounting and 12V power cable. Also in the package is a USB cable that is to be used to update the mapping, firmware and can be used with BaseCamp software to plan routes and view your travels. An additional feature for the Zumo 390 is it will eventually interface to the VIRB Action Camera. So if you want the most in Garmin technology for the motorcycle the Zumo 390 is what you want.
