Even though you may be used to referring to complicated charts for calculations, imagine how nice it would be to get a direct read-out of slope, heights and diameters displayed right in the eyepiece, which will update continuously as you adjust the controls.

By integrating a tilt sensor within the Criterion RD 1000, you can use it as a dendrometer and measure diameters anywhere on the stem as well as the height at which a specific diameter occurs. It can also be used as a slope-corrected Basal Area scope for variable plot cruising. Obtain diameter accuracy of +/- 0.25 inch out to 80 feet away from the tree by utilizing the included detachable magnifying lens.

Ditemui disela-sela seminar nasional “ Watervironment for Better Living” di Campus Center ITB, Aidil Zakarsih, representatif Vestergaard Frandsen-pemilik paten LifeStraw mengungkapkan bahwa selama ini produknya dipergunakan untuk memenuhi kebutuhan relawan atau militer yang membutuhkan air untuk dikonsumsi di daerah-daerah bencana atau rawan air.
“ Ini untuk memenuhi kebutuhan akan air untuk konsumsi di daerah bencana atau yang susah air, ” ujarnya, Sabtu petang ( 6/ 11/ 2010) .
LifeStraw sendiri saat ini memiliki dua model: Personal dan Family. Untuk personal, LifeStraw mampu menyaring 700 liter air. Cukup untuk satu orang selama satu tahun. Sedangkan yang family bisa memproduksi air hingga 18.000 liter air. Ini cukup untuk memenuhi kebutuhan air satu keluarga hingga 3 tahun.
“ Karena tidak ada spare part yang harus diganti, maka alat ini bisa dipergunakan dalam jangka waktu lama. Dengan asumsi kebutuhan air sekeluarga rata-rata 20 liter per hari, maka dengan kapasitas 18.000 liter maka cukup untuk 3 tahun, ” jelasnya.

Materi Logam Berat Belum Lenyap
LifeStraw memang bisa menghilangkan 99, 9 persen bakteri, virus dan parasit. Namun untuk material logam berat, alat ini belum bisa.
“ Dengan direbus pun, material logam berat masih tetap ada. Sampai saat ini belum ada teknologi yang mampu menyaring logam berat dari air yang kita konsumsi. Tapi untuk bakteri, virus dan parasit bisa disaring, ” jelasnya.
Sedangkan untuk rasa dan bau, Aidil mengaku ada perbaikan. “ Untuk rasa dan bau kita mampu perbaiki. Walaupun tidak 100 persen tidak bau dan berwarna namun alat ini mampu memperbaikinya, ” kata Aidil.
Karenanya, Aidil menyarankan penggunaan LifeStraw sebaiknya untuk sumber air yang biasanya dipakai oleh masyarakat. Seperti air sungai, air hujan atau air
tanah. Karena untuk penggunaan air-air ekstrim seperti air lumpur dan air selokan itu tidak setiap saat.
